What’s This? I’m a Grad Student!

So, I heard last week and decided to make it official. I got accepted into Portland State University’s Master of Science in Writing: Book Publishing program!

I’m going there this fall (think – August). I have to get back into the grind of tests, papers, homework, studying. Plus I’m going to work at a student run publishing press called Ooligan Press for credit.

What does this mean for my editing business:
Nothing! Okay, well something of course. I’ll be learning how to better edit your work (as well as do other things in the business). I mean to say that I’ll still be editing throughout my Publishing Program. And I’ll still have the same rates and due dates as before. I’ll just be better educated. There might be a chance I won’t take clients during finals, but that’s only one week each trimester so it won’t be too terrible. I can always work around it.

As for my Alaskan clients:
The program is in Portland…which means I’m moving! I can still service Alaskan clients, of course, but it will be primarily through electronic means. (Using Skype is also an option.) I’ll miss all those lovely coffee dates though, hashing out details of your characters and plotlines. And if you’re ever in the Portland area in the next two years, be sure to contact me if you’d like to visit.

Overall this will be quite the change for me – going from an 8-5 job to a full time student – but I’m up for the challenge.
And as an added bonus, I’ll still get to enjoy a beautiful Alaskan summer with my friends, family, and clients before I leave.

Warm regards,
Kellie
