What can I do for you?
I can tell you what I specialize in until I turn blue in the face, but if you don't know the difference between copyediting and developmental editing (or even what they are) then you'd just be watching a woman with a blue face. To be sure that doesn't happen, I've added a short description of what you can expect.
Developmental editing
This is a fancy word for content. I read the work and make sure everything makes sense, the characters are well rounded and their attitudes don't change from happy-go-lucky one moment to seriously moody in the next (unless the story calls for it). I make sure that there are no conflicting ideas within essays and conflicting emotional tones in poetry. Basically, I make sure that your work stays consistent, develops fully, and carries the ideas you've set in the beginning of your work throughout the entire piece.
Copyediting
This is your basic grammatical run-through. If I see a comma in the wrong place I scratch it out. If you forget to add quotations or citations I mark it. If sentence structure gets twisted, I'll help straighten it out.
Proofreading
This is after your manuscript has gone through the design phase. It's the final run-through before it goes to the printer.
Timeline and Rates
I usually take 30 days to edit full-length manuscripts, but for smaller projects like reports, poems, and letters I have a faster turnaround time depending on the length. If you require a rush edit on a full-length manuscript, I can do one round of edits in 14 days. However, if you choose me as your editor, we can discuss project timelines better suited to your needs.
I generally charge $5-$10 per double-spaced page, depending on the type of editing you require. (My rates fall under the Editorial Freelancers Association editorial rates.)

Testimonials
Fiction Editing
"Thank you for your excellent work. Your questions made me slow down and think more about the characters and what was happening. You've helped me make the characters more dynamic and the events more interesting."

"When it comes to manuscript editors, Kellie is my top pick. Not only are her edits insightful, her suggestions and comments allow me to make significant, meaningful changes to the content of my stories and not just correct surface errors. That being said, any grammatical or syntactical corrections are always consistent. Kellie does not fall into the trap of correcting one mistake in one place and ignoring it twenty chapters later. Her attention to detail is astounding. As a writer for a small publisher like Desert Palm Press, I need someone who I know can work in a timely fashion and deliver consistent feedback that pushes me to do better."

Technical Editing
"Association of Alaska Housing Authorities is a nonprofit membership organization consisting of 14 regional housing authorities and Alaska Housing Finance Corporation. The goal of the association is to ensure a strong supply of healthy and safe housing in Alaska. We highly recommend Kellie’s editing services to any organization or individual who takes written communications seriously.
We have the pleasure of working with Kellie on a variety of internal and external documentation: from simple letters and personnel policies to communications with elected officials. Every time, Kellie comes back with useful suggestions and great edits. We can tell she loves her work, because we can see it in her quality of editing.
The ability to communicate well is mission-critical for our organization, and Kellie helps us become so much more effective at what we do."
Sincerely,
Andrei Chakine

What Others Have to Say
"My name is Ben Waschke and I am hopelessly dyslexic and completely inept at grammar. I've had her edit a 110,000 word novel as well as a 750 word newspaper article. She knows her stuff and her prices are affordable. She's really helped me out a lot."
