Job #1: Full Time
Office Assistant II at the State of Alaska, Section of Women’s, Children’s, and Family Health
- In this position I support two different units: the Adult Health unit and the MCH-Epi unit. I also wear SO MANY HATS. I do a bunch of purchasing, travel planning for my people, website editing, data entry, incoming and outgoing mail, answering phones for the general line and the Ladies First line, and a ton of other random tasks that get assigned to me. It’s a good job, my coworkers are seriously the best, and my supervisor is really cool. I get tugged into a lot of different directions every day and I’m also helping to train the new hires. (I’m co-travel lead, by the way. It’s funny—I can talk for 45 minutes straight about Travel Stuff no problem AND a bunch of folks have said that I’m a good trainer…yet I still get nervous talking about my books? What is that all about? Oie vey.) I’ll be celebrating TWO YEARS at my current position in October of this year.
Job #2: Part Time
Freelance Editor at Edit Revise Perfect, my own freelance editing company
- I’ve had this company for quite a while now, ever since graduating with my undergrad degree. I do fiction and nonfiction editing, specializing in developmental editing, copyediting, and proofreading. Developmental editing is the big overarching stuff, character creation, plotlines, that kind of thing; copyediting is more line-by-line edits, grammar stuff; and proofreading is the final stage after the copy has been designed to check for minor things and oddities that arose during the design phase. I have two ongoing contracts, one for fiction and one for non-fiction. It’s really great to have those ongoing editing jobs and keep my mind sharp.
Job #3: Part Time
Author with Desert Palm Press
- Writing is an all-the-time job, really, because I'm always brainstorming and promoting and such. I have three books out, two science fiction works and one fantasy. I'm currently working on the second book in my Broken Chronicles. It's a lot of work, but it's also really fun! I write mostly on the weekend and brainstorm/revise during the week.
Job #4: Semi-Part Time
Random Projects I Take On at various locations
- Yes, I do take on some random projects every now and then for some extra cash or extra experience or extra fun. This can range from being a judge for writing events like the NYC Midnight event to designing the program for the AWG writers and illustrators conference. I’m actually doing the second one right now, designing the program for the 2019 AWG conference in September! I’ve also accepted the position of volunteer contributor for Fantasy Faction so I’ve been doing that each month since September of last year.
Too many things? Yeah, probably, but I like being busy.
Warm regards,
Kellie
