I'm so happy, my little freelance business is off and running!
Now, enough talk, time to edit!
Edit. Revise. Perfect. |
Ahh, the wonders of social media... I put an ad on craigslist about my services last week and already got two bites! One from a poet who's going to be self-publishing her anthology and another from a writer who's going to self-publish a manuscript of anecdotes.

Saw your ad on Craigslist and immediately opened your website. I love to see new grads being proactive and wish I could take a long time to give you advice from my 30+ years experience. Have a BA in English/History from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, but studied at Univ. of Texas without graduating (raising kids, while working for engineering firms). My editing has almost ALL entailed engineering and technical editing. I retired in 2005 (early) from Univ. of TX College of Engineering as technical editor and returned to my beloved Alaska to work in Anchorage for engineering firms on contract. Very lucrative at first, but economy killed me after a few years. Worked for 3 Native corporations and CH2M Hill. Because you are primarily editing documents of a nontechnical nature, I'd suggest staying away from engineering firms, unless you want to spend years trying to learn their unusual style guides (all supposedly based on Chicago). I'm not editing in Anchorage anymore, having built my Alaskan cabin in Homer. Now working part-time for a nonprofit land trust in Homer, which is a light-hearted change of pace from stressful deadlines in the big world. Let me know if you ever have any questions. Anne Cain
